Starting a blog is hard work. I have to admit that it has been a journey these last couple of months. When I started my blog, I had no idea what I was doing. It was a new world for me, and everything was new and exciting. And it was HARD.

But as time went on, I started to learn a few tricks and picked up a few tips here and there. These tips and tricks helped me developed my style and made me a more efficient blogger. I would not still be here if I did not learn these things along the way.

As a blogger, the first thing you’ll discover is that blogging is all about learning from others. Those who have been through this hard confuse world and are willing to share their knowledge with us. That is why I am here. To share with you what my journey has been. In the hopes that you will receive inspiration to continue on the blogging journey. Plus these hacks are worth knowing.

Without further ado here are 6 things I learned as a new blogger and helped me get to where I am now.

Invest In Your Blog

This one took me a while and I am still battling it. Mostly because I am cheap. But if you’re a new blogger or looking to start a blog you need to invest in your blog.

The first thing I did was learn what self-hosting was and how to do it. I’m glad I did. I now use one of the best self-hosting sites for my blog. I highly recommend you check out Siteground. It is one of the fastest, and safest website hosting sites out there. And plus the customer service is amazing.

Another investment I made for my blog was signing up for a course on how to blog. I had no experience and was new to this blogging world and investing in a course was amazing. Turns out it was the best investment I ever made for my blog. I would have never gotten my blog yo where it is now if I didn’t invest.

The course I invested in was the create and go course by Alex and Lauren. Two bloggers who went from zero to 500,000 visitors on their blog in a month using Pinterest.

I’m not going to lie to y’all at first, I did not want to do it. I was cheap and skeptical. I even went as far as to sign up for their email to wait for a sale. But the more I Google the more I became confuse. As an act of desperation, I invested in the course. And guess what? I love it so much that I am recommending it to you. Not only am I recommending their started course I am recommending their other courses. Trust me it worth your money.

Blog as you go

When I first started blogging, I was wasting time on actually writing my blog post. I developed an obsession trying to figure out what to write. I wasted countless hours in front of my computer losing my freedom and sanity. Yes, it was a laptop, but I still couldn’t take it with me to the store or the church.

That’s when I discovered this awesome tip “Blog as you go.” This tip revolutionized my life. And right now, I am waiting for a doctor’s appointment and writing this post. My point it this don’t confined yourself to sitting in front of the computer.

You are free to go out because you never know when inspiration will come. That means you can write post anywhere and use your most trusted friend to do it. By most trusted friend I mean your cellphone.

I am an Android user (please no comments). I used Keep Notes to save the post that I write. After I write a post, I upload the post to Google docs. Where I can go back later download them and copy and paste to my blog post page and edit them. Trust me this will save you so much time.

Pin as you go

Like every new blogger, you learn the importance of Pinterest. I honestly don’t know if we can blog without it. Pinterest is a bloggers best friend and a tool that should not be neglected. My only problem is I work full time.

That is why I pin as I go. I don’t waste time sitting in front of a computer but promote my pins right on my phone. When I have a break at work I just promote. It takes like 5 min if not less and I don’t have to stress about anything.

Make time

Time is something I wonder if I’ll ever have enough of. To answer my own thoughts the answer is usually a no. But if something is important, we make time for it. If your blog is your baby like mine is to me. You will make time.

I am a full-time social worker and therapist. My days are long and full of demanding people. That is why it is important for me to wake up early to do what I love and that is blogging. If blogging is something you want to do you need to make time to blog or your blog will fail. If you have to wake up early or stay up late, then do it. It is important that you set time aside to pursue this blogging thing. You will be happy you did.

Invest time in you blog and it will pay off. At least that’s how the experts do it.

Follow two to three people

When I first started blogging, I had a lot of voices in my head. Not the crazy kinds that tell me to do weird things. But the voices of many people offering me advice on how to start my blog and succeed. I did not know who to listen to. I signed up for every free course and read all the advice blogs that I could find. And all this left me feeling confused and overwhelmed. Until I realize what I was doing wrong.

It might be the same thing you are doing wrong. Trying to listen to all the voices. I felt lost. Until I decided to pick two to three people to follow. These people are the ones I trust. They are seniors in the blogging world and people who are doing what I want to do. I listen to them and read their posts. I follow their instruction and because I did confusion left me and so did those restless nights.

All it took for me to find my direction was quieting all the voices that were speaking. That is why I am sharing this tip with you. Trust me to narrow down the voices your listening to and you will be able to be successful in this blogging stuff.

Have fun

Last and not least have fun. If you like doing something, then it’s fun. I like blogging so it’s fun for me. That is why there is a travel section on my blog. To share with y’all all the fun things I do.

Yes, blogging is a serious business and it can make you money. But make sure you enjoy it. Don’t do something for the money. Do it because you love it. That is what living freely is all about.
